The first Century 21 Department Store in Florida is slated to open at Sawgrass Mills next year.
Century 21, in business since 1961, carries designer men's, women's and children's apparel, footwear, cosmetics and other accessories. Century 21 has stores in Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey, and the Florida location is expected to be the company's first store outside the Northeast.
The shop at Sawgrass Mills will cover about 85,000 square feet and open in fall 2016. The store also will sell home goods.
"For more than 50 years, we've been a destination within the New York market for high-end fashion consumers," Raymond Gindi, chief executive of Century 21 Department Store, said in a statement. "As Sawgrass Mills has become one of the world's most recognized and successful shopping destinations for people from around the corner and around the globe, the choice of where to locate was obvious when we made a decision to bring Century 21 to the Southeast to local, seasonal and international audiences."
Century 21 is expected to open in the space currently occupied by VF Outlet.
VF Outlet sold its parcel to Sunrise Mills Limited Partnership for $16.8 million, according to Broward County records. Sunrise Mills is affiliated with Simon, the company that owns Sawgrass Mills.
VF Outlet plans to vacate the property by the end of the year and move to a smaller space in the area.
Sawgrass Mills is at 12801 W. Sunrise Blvd. in Sunrise.
