The bumper cars will come to rest for the last time Sunday at Boomers, a family entertainment center in Dania Beach.
A message on the company's website states that Sunday, Jan. 25, will be its last day of operation. The site lists its closing time as 10 p.m.
A woman who answered the phone at Boomers confirmed that the center will be closed so owners will have enough time to liquidate its assets before its scheduled demolition, possibly in May, to make way for a planned shopping plaza.
Developers are planning a complex they're calling DaniaLive, a $250 million-plus project including big-box retail stores, casual and formal restaurants, at least one hotel, apartments and possibly condos and offices. It is a joint venture of Master Development, Salzman Real Estate Advisors of Dania Beach and the New York-based Kimco real estate investment trust.
Boomers is next to the site of the Dania Beach Hurricane, once billed as the tallest roller coaster south of Atlanta. The coaster shut down in 2011 because it wasn't profitable enough. The developers intend to tear down the wooden roller coaster this year.
